Super-sub 'Faz' wastes little time
WILL FAZAKERLEY did not wait long to make an impact on his return to GFC action.
The big striker had been on the Footes Lane pitch only 13 minutes when he smashed the ball high into the Sittingbourne net to seal a well-deserved 3-1 triumph and a rare third straight Isthmian South-East League win for GFC, one which lifted the club into seventh place, just three points off the play-off spots.
No wonder, then, that manager Tony Vance cut such a relaxed figure after the final whistle.
‘I thought it was an outstanding second half, we controlled everything in every department.
‘We made a bit of a change at half-time, talked it through, and everyone seemed to be happy with what we tried to do and I thought the players carried it out.
‘There were some superb performances out there and [man-of-the-match] Liam Mahon was ridiculous. I think he broke his mileage stats, even by his standards. His quality on the ball was great as well and I also thought Matty Loaring was also very, very good. They were the two stand-outs in front of nine other very good performances.’
The Green Lions came into the game without star striker Ross Allen who had taken a whack in the midweek win and Vance was keen to take him out of the firing line.
‘He is close to playing but we thought we would pull him out today and we have two more home games this week. He will be ready for Wednesday.’
There were also outstanding results in Alderney and the KGV.
At Mount Hale, Rangers won their first game of the season with a 2-1 triumph.
At KGV, Sylvans hit back from 4-1 down with a quarter of the game remaining to hold the champions St Martin’s to a 4-4 draw.
