Green Lions are running on empty

FLAT, tired and outplayed, Guernsey FC’s unbeaten run came to an emphatic end at Footes Lane and with it they surrendered eighth place in Isthmian South East to their impressive conquerors Chichester City.

Tony Vance admitted that his team were distinctly second best and has concerns that working with a small squad at this level is physically catching up with them.

‘We were shattered and there was me thinking that they’d be the tired group. But they were energised and we weren’t,’ he said after the 3-0 loss.

‘That was the catalyst for the loss and we did not deserve to win.

‘For 10 minutes we looked sharp and we didn’t take the opportunities when we were on top and after that completely fizzled out. We were second best from then on. No energy.

‘I am quite concerned how tired the lads are. Maybe we need to look at a certain few players and take them out for a while.’

GFC held on for 44 minutes but gifted the visitors goals in quick succession either side of the break and the Green Lions never threatened a revival before the impressive Josh Clack got the third virtually on time.

By then the home side were chasing a very decent side.

‘They have got some good players and fortunately for them they were on their game today and we weren’t.

‘We were lucky it was only three.

‘We gifted them two goals but they could have had a few more.’
