Indies Ladies take a big step towards the title

TASHA SYMES’ face told the story just as much as her words.

‘It was an awesome top-of-the-table clash – it befitted being a top-of-the-table game. I’m just chuffed,’ said the smiling Indies Ladies captain, who was delighted, relieved and exhausted all in the same breath after their 3-2 win over Colombians-Puffins.

That was hardly surprising after seeing her side establish a two-goal lead over the reigning champions only to be pegged back to 2-2 after coming under the cosh for most of the third quarter of the game before finding some extra – thanks largely to a fine goal from Lauren Ewins – to edge a cracking contest.

In doing so, they virtually guaranteed that they would regain the Women’s Division title.

Captain Symes had scored the first before Ewins doubled the lead, but two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, scored by Liza Sayer and Lucy Waldrom, pulled Puffins level.
