The Beechwood schoolmaster had seen his side narrowly beaten a year earlier, but this time the Greens took the spoils with a late winner by Castel’s Chloe Ingrouille who is believed to be the first female to score in an age-group Muratti.

‘We had a great start, they came out of the blocks and followed our plan exactly,’ said Sutton.

‘They tired a little towards the end of the first half and conceded but I thought we were unlucky with the wind for Jersey’s equaliser. But they responded well to the challenge.’

Tom Hall, who helps runs the Jersey team said the result is of least importance.

‘Last year the game was similar, when we won 4-3. But the big thing about these matches is that the players learn a lot.

‘For many of them it is the first time they will have faced similar or even better standard opposition, so it is a great experience. Everybody wants to win, of course, but learning how to deal with different conditions and opposition is the key factor.’
