IT COULD have been a much easier end to the Guernsey Raiders Ladies season.

Havant Ladies visit Footes Lane tomorrow just six points behind league leaders London Irish with a game in hand, so will no doubt be gunning for another bonus point win to keep them in contention for the NC 1 South East (South) title.

Guernsey, who sit fifth, were on the wrong end of a 34-25 scoreline away at London Irish at the beginning of the season, but the progression of the GRL team over the course of the campaign has been incredible and they are confident of claiming another leading scalp in their final game before the Siam defence.

Head coach Steve Evans has selection difficulties, but they are of the good kind with competition across the whole squad for places on the team sheet.

This demonstrates how far the team has come – for the away fixture, GRL struggled to raise a squad of 16.

This last Raiders Ladies league game gives U18s Danielle Jeffreys and Alice Hunt an opportunity to play in front of a home crowd for the first time, but Aimee Le Bachelet is unavailable at 9 this weekend, so Justeen Baker and Sophie Ferbrache move over to fill the scrum half and fly half positions respectively.

The pack is starting to look familiar, with the only change to the starting line-up being Becky Travers making her first start in the front row.

No doubt the performances of the whole squad will hit another level as this is the last chance to impress in a competitive game before the home Siam on 2 May.

Kick-off is at 2.30pm.
