Hamon staying on at Truro City
FOOTBALLERS the length and breadth of the country will be sweating over their future amid the coronavirus financial hit.
But one who won’t is Guernsey’s best home-grown goalkeeper of the 21st century, James Hamon.
Truro City yesterday delivered a steady update on their playing staff’s position via their official Twitter service.
And while some of those tweets confirmed departures, for the Guernseyman it was good news and that ‘everyone’s favourite shot stopper’ would again be a Truro player next season and that the club, which sat top of the Southern League Premier Division South before the sudden halting of the season, were taking up an option for the Sarnian to stay with them for another campaign.
The 24-year-old Hamon joined Truro last summer after playing 27 times for Exeter City over several seasons and then a short spell at Hayes & Yeading.
Hamon’s latest club were among the many dozen who appealed the FA decision to declare the 2019-20 null and void. Hamon called that decision ‘heartbreaking’.
The White Tigers had won 21, drawn four and lost six of the 31 games they had played. They were top by one point, but with two games in hand on nearest rivals Chesham United with one of the best defensive records in the division, not least because of the Sarnian’s consistent displays.
