ROVERS’ credentials as serious FNG Priaulx League title challengers have been further strengthened by news of an imminent signing and the commitment of a returning defensive force.

Vale Rec’s Island U21s winger Martin Savident has agreed to join the Port Soif outfit, who also have all their Guernsey FC men on board for the new campaign.

And a further boost is the news that central defender Toby Oluborode is back on island full time after a prolonged spell away in the UK on course studies.

‘I’m very happy to get Martin; he’s a really good player and the ideal age,’ said Gillease yesterday. ‘It’s all agreed,’ added Gillease, who is going into his first season as main coach with a strong group at his disposal.

Another contented coach is Sylvans’ Martyn de Garis, who has been assured by Robbie Legg and Seb Skillen that the GFC duo will play for them while the Green Lions are inactive due to the knock-on effects of Covid-19.

Additionally, Seb Smeed and Jacob Fallaize are keen to play for the Westerners until such time they return to their American university studies.

The first three days of the June transfer window have been predictably busy, most notably Belgraves with the capture of Charlton Gauvain, Leroi Riley, Selby Breaton and Callum Cummins-Wall.

Rangers have announced the signing of promising youngsters Steffan Timms and Reece Hockey but Saints' coach Leon Meakin reports no incoming movement at Blanche Pierre Lane, where it is widely rumoured Ross Allen will sign.
