Fit-again Mollet will be back for North

CRUELLY deprived of a 33rd Priaulx League crown because of coronavirus, North are doubly keen to get going again and get their hands back on the old trophy they have won more times than any other club.

And they have received a mid-summer boost with news that midfielder Luke Mollet, who missed all of last season through injury, is likely to be fit again when football resumes.

‘He will be a big addition to the squad,’ said the club’s assistant coach, Mark Totty, of a player who had forced his way into island contention with consistently strong displays.

But as for Guernsey FC players signing for the side that were 10 points clear at the top of the table before lockdown, Totty says he and the club are in the dark.

‘It’s all very quiet on the North front,’ he said yesterday.

‘We haven’t actively been looking for anyone but we are always looking for players to boost the squad,’ he added.

Keanu Marsh, brother of North captain River, had been signed for North previously after transferring from Vale Rec.

But Totty was unaware of the GFC wing-back’s intentions.

‘It is going to look different with a smattering of GFC players back across the league.

‘But we do feel a bit of loyalty to those we had last year.’

The rumour mill suggests that perhaps a couple of young Sylvans might be heading for the Northfield, but Totty was unaware of that.

Meanwhile, Sylvans coach Martyn de Garis says the westerners that have made their best signing of the summer in Guy Hardill moving into the secretarial role after the long-serving Kevin Melrose finally got his wish to be able to stand down.
