The first of four first-round games on successive nights will be a sparky affair if last week’s friendly between the two sides at Blanche Pierre Lane is anything to go by.

The game finished 3-3 and, in the words of Manzur coach Mark Romeril, ‘both teams went for it’.

Romeril regards tonight’s game (7.30pm kick off) as another important workout for his bulging squad with the FNB Priaulx League and Jeremie Cup promising to make a hectic second half of August.

‘We will be using it as a pre-season friendly,’ added a coach who was touched to see so many at the Track nine days ago to help raise £3k for the Bowel Cancer charity.

Manzur are overflowing with players and having signed left-sided defender Nick Trebert they now have another option in defence.

He is unavailable this evening but Romeril expects all but one of his GFC clan – Rihoy, Liam Mahon, Frank Tobin, Matt Loaring and Kez Mahon – to be involved, the exception being the injured Mahon.

Rihoy played 35 minutes against Saints and given the number of players Romeril has available to him he welcomes the Rawlinson-only rule of seven rolling subs.
