MAYA LE TISSIER is being tipped to go far in her career by one of her Brighton & Hove Albion teammates.

In an interview with the club’s media team published on the same day that the Seagulls began their new Barclays FA Women’s Super League campaign with a win over Birmingham City, the Guernsey player’s fellow defender Victoria Williams explained that while she enjoys the role of passing on her experience to younger players, she admits there is little she can teach 18-year-old Le Tissier.

‘I always like to see which players are coming through that can make an impact, but with Maya I don’t feel like I am playing alongside a kid,’ Williams said.

‘She’s kind of advanced beyond her years in terms of positional awareness and the professional attitude that she has.

‘I think Brighton are very fortunate to have her.

‘I personally believe that she has a very promising career ahead of her both at club and international level.’

Le Tissier established herself in the Brighton first team last season and she played the full 90 minutes as two goals in two second-half minutes deservedly made it a winning start for Albion against Birmingham City.

Megan Connolly put the Seagulls ahead just before the hour with a great strike from distance before supplying the cross which Inessa Kaagman headed in to double the lead.

‘It’s always nice to get off to a good start and I was really pleased with our performance,’ said head coach Hope Powell.

‘I thought Birmingham did well in the first half and probably kept the ball better than we did.

‘It took us time to get going but we kept our shape and were quite disciplined and in the second half we played a lot better and thankfully got our just rewards.’

Brighton’s next game is away to Manchester City on Sunday.
