Le Tissier earns spot in HFH Team of the Week

DESPITE an outstanding performance from Maya Le Tissier, Brighton & Hove Albion were unable to prevent FA Women’s Super League champions Chelsea extending their unbeaten run to 29 games.

A solitary goal from Australian star Sam Kerr was all that separated the sides on Sunday afternoon when fans returned to the People’s Pension Stadium in Crawley for the first time since February.

Enjoying having the backing of home supporters for the first time this season, Le Tissier excelled at the back for the hosts and earned a spot in the Her Football Hub Team of the Week. She also received the Her Football Hub Rising Star award, as chosen by retired footballer Fern Whelan.

‘I think we got a response today [from Spurs], a very good response. [I’m] just really, really gutted for everybody that we didn’t at least get a point,’ said Brighton boss Hope Powell.

‘They’re a top-class side with top-class players, so I think we showcased ourselves really well today and we proved we can compete.’

The 1-0 defeat and results elsewhere saw Brighton drop a place to ninth in the 12-team WSL.
