But while Tuesday night’s resounding 55-40 victory over Blaze A delighted captain Tiff Gervaise-Brazier, it was the quality of Rezzers’ performance that had her waxing most lyrical.

She praised ‘absolutely awesome’ showings from shooters Verona Tomlin and Clare Henry, plus Abby McCracken and Gemma Batiste in the defending circle, after grabbing five points and handing Blaze none.

Trailing Blaze by just three with a game in hand – against low-ranked opposition – shortly after New Year bolsters the Greens’ title defence hopes.

‘It’s obviously a confidence boost,’ Gervaise-Brazier said.

‘We did start the season a bit slow and I don’t know whether it’s the circumstances of this season, but we didn’t really get going.’

Last October they suffered the narrowest of defeats to Blaze, going down 44-45, salvaging two points regardless.

Rezzers have run undefeated otherwise and another timely boost comes from the development of their youth White outfit, making 14-player games in training much more feasible.

‘For the last month, we’ve trained hard on the Monday, and we focused and put what we’ve done in training into play today,’ the captain added.

‘Always credit to Blaze. They turn up and give us a good game and it’s the game we look forward to.’

Blaze captain Nena Copperwaite left feeling Rezzers deserved the win.

But she added, ‘I don’t feel the scoreline reflected [the game]’ after a thrilling match showcasing the very best of the Winter League.
