Sylvans strikers Kyle Smith and Euan Melrose both hit double hat-tricks as the title challengers thumped bottom-of-the-table Rangers 12-1 on the KGV 3G in making it 15 matches now unbeaten.

While six-goal individual hauls have been bettered in the century-and-a-quarter of the competition, it is not thought that two team-mates have done it in the same game.

Martyn de Garis, the Sylvans coach, said he felt a bit sorry for the Rangers youngsters but it was ‘probably some of the best football I’ve seen us play’.

He added: ‘The build up play in some of the goals was absolutely amazing and to get the finishes as well was great.’

De Garis had been concerned about his side’s goal difference beforehand as it could yet make all the difference in the chase for the title.

‘We had to get our goal difference up, but I didn’t expect that, nowhere near it.’

Rangers’ Brad Foss hit his own spectacular 35-yarder.

In the weekend's other FNB Priaulx League matches, Dom Heaume's goal gave St Martin's a 1-0 win over Bels on Friday night before Rovers beat Manzur 4-0 at Port Soif on Saturday with Carlos Canha netting a hat-trick and Fin Whitmore scoring the other.
