The board held a virtual meeting last week to discuss the situation in relation to the current island lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and their desire is to finish the season even if it means lengthening it or playing some matches midweek to fit in the remaining fixtures.

‘We have been in the very privileged position of having been able to play a full domestic season up until now, and we are keen to ensure that it is completed and that the trophies are awarded following a full programme of fixtures,’ said a Guernsey Hockey statement.

‘We usually have a few weeks at the end of the season between hockey and the start of summer sports that we would look to utilise.’

The board have also noted that their Isle of Man counterparts announced their intent to resume hockey in a few weeks following their circuit-breaker lockdown.

‘In line with England Hockey, Guernsey Sport Commission and States guidance, Guernsey Hockey developed a restart plan during the last lockdown based on the States of Guernsey phased exit plan.

‘This has been reviewed in light of the current situation and will be updated in line with any advice forthcoming from the States with regard lockdown exit phases this time around.

‘In the meantime, people can still get their hockey fix in their homes through our virtual hockey series. Our hockey development officer conducted an initial “live” session last Sunday morning on Facebook in place of the usual junior coaching, and is currently developing some other videos for publication.’

Unbeaten Amazons currently sit top of the Alliance Women’s League while Indies lead the way in Men’s Division One having won all 10 of the games they have played.
