GR&HC members welcome chance of a blow-out
THE pressure was off as dozens of combinations, many of them old and some new, returned to the Les Bordages show ground deep in the St Saviour’s countryside yesterday, writes Rob Batiste.
The height jumping event saw familiarisation and a chance for a speedy blow-out with no fear of picking up faults, being the order of the day.
Nine classes were tested over 10 fences with heights ranging from 40cm for the very youngest to a metre or 1.10m for Eleni Falla on Mistro and Hasta La Vista.
First and foremost this was an opportunity to forget rosettes and silverware and just get back on the mount after an untimely lockdown threatened to significantly disrupt a busy 2021 Riding and Hunt Club calendar.
For some it was ‘gently does it’ as rider began a new association with a new pony. For others, it was the chance of testing early season speed and stamina without any penalty on the all-weather arena course comprising single hurdles, no doubles or trebles which enabled juniors and seniors to ride together.
