Cut back rather than play catch up
AN ADAPTED netball scene is set to spring back into action at the end of this month.
The Winter League will restart on Tuesday 30 March provided venues are available and Guernsey is in stage three of the exit from lockdown.
But the Guernsey Netball Association have cut several fixtures across the board, in order to finish by mid-May and avoid clashing with summer activities.
Matches will also consist of 12-minute quarters rather than the standard 15.
‘Player safety and wellbeing is paramount,’ the GNA’s Heidi Rosamund said.
‘We have been looking at Superleague in the UK and what they are doing.’
It is business as usual upon resumption as teams complete any remaining first-round matches, at which point each division will split into bottom and top halves as normal.
Yet teams will only play each other once after the split, rather than the usual twice.
That means the pressure is on for those contesting the bottom-half Plate – as they will have their points reset at the split. Goal average will have the final say if results are particularly close.
GNA management will be keeping a keen eye on today’s media briefing to consider any further precautions.
