Bels put pressure on Sylvans
BELGRAVES’ third win of the season over the Ridunians has lifted them to within three points of third place with a game in hand on Sylvans, whose top-three spot is now precarious indeed.
Alderney gave home FNB Priaulx League full debuts to goalkeeper Dean Carre and Mikey Crowley and with a strong breeze in their favour, the visitors were soon testing Carre.
Jermaine Parry almost put the home side ahead when his volley rattled the bar and soon afterwards Charlton Gauvain hit the woodwork at the other end.
This followed a series of corners defended well, but the third consecutive one and perhaps the weakest delivery was deflected by Andy Adamson into the path of Brent Marquand, who had a tap-in to make it 1-0 on the half-hour mark.
Alderney responded well and man-of-the-match John Adamson had a speculative shot-cum-chip which was just off target.
The hosts started the second half the brighter of the two teams but after John Adamson was caught in possession, Bels broke and Gauvain neatly slotted the ball past Carre.
Alderney reacted positively but scoring continues to be a major issue for them – 21 in 19 league games this campaign – and
Bels’ third goal through Steve Renouf killed off their hopes of a rescue act.
Josh Concanen got one back with 20 minutes still to go, but soon after all home hopes were dashed as Renouf caught Carre off guard.
