The club yesterday had it confirmed they will play in Isthmian South Central Division.

The 20 allocated sides comprise old faces such as Tooting and Mitcham United, South Park and Whyteleafe, but the majority of the sides GFC have not come across previously.

GFC coach Tony Vance called it ‘exciting’.

‘It is a new beginning for us and good timing, with football having not been around for 18 months.

‘There are some teams in there with some history – the likes of Staines, Basingstoke and Tooting and Mitcham. Three big clubs with good pedigree.’

Vance admits he had heard a rumour that his club might be on the move and he also welcomed it for logistical reasons.

‘The trips had been getting more difficult and hopefully it will provide some fresh motivation for our players and the potentially new ones coming in.

‘I was hoping to be moved, to be honest.’
