The four-time champion produced some brilliant golf over the weekend, particularly on Sunday as he beat Bobby Eggo 4 & 3 in the final having earlier overcome Mick Marley 3 & 2 in the morning semi-finals when he was two-under-par gross for his 16 holes. Marley himself was an impressive one-over-par.

Eggo defeated Steve Mahy 5 & 4 in the second semi-final.

For Blondel it was a fifth consecutive Island final, but he went into this one after back-to-back defeats after his previous title successes came in 2010, 2017 and 2018

‘Obviously I was aware of it. I wasn’t trying to think about it too much because it’s not as if the last two finals I’ve lost heavily – last year to Tom [Le Huray] on the last with him sinking a long putt and losing to Jez [Nicolle] two years ago on the second play-off hole at La Grande Mare when he made a good two – so I used it as a positive to get to five finals in a row now.

'Going into this afternoon I was confident, but, yeah, it is nice. Losing three in a row would have hurt I think,’ he said with wry grin.
