THE weather beat everyone last evening as play was suspended in the DJW Prestige Vehicle Sourcing Island Women’s Championships quarter-finals.

The last-eight encounters will resume on Friday afternoon, ahead of the semi-finals which are scheduled to start at 4pm.

All matches throughout the three divisions got under way and the first match out, involving defending Division One champion Veronica Bougourd, got as far as the 14th hole before the worsening conditions of heavy rain and increasingly strong winds caused the Guernsey Golf Union to call a halt to proceedings.

Bougourd is starting the defence of her title against Di Hudson, who had edged out Mary Bate 1 up in Monday’s preliminary round.

Also on the opening day of competition, Di Aitchison overcame Sue Wellfair 5 & 3 to earn a quarter-final with Mandy Webber while junior Chloe Gaudion beat Di Stenner 3 & 1 to progress to the last eight where she is up against Kay Mapley.

The other Division One quarter-final is between another teenager in Chloe Domaille and Sally Ingrouille.
