Tardif’s two-year ban, Manzur fined £600

ISLAND football manager Chris Tardif faces a two-year ban from working in open-age club football and Manzur have been fined £600 with a suspended Priaulx League nine-point ban hovering over them for the next two years.

This is after the Guernsey Football League Management board found both the individual and club guilty of breaching rules with regard to tapping up players.

But no sooner had the GFLM released a statement on Saturday evening to that affect, Manzur and Tardif released their own saying they were surprised at the actions imposed and sought an urgent meeting with the GFLM in order to seek clarity on the complaint and breaches, while both parties reserved their rights to appeal pending such a meeting.

It appears the penalties followed a formal complaint by a Priaulx League club, but whether that has anything to do with the confirmed signing of Will Fazakerley from Rovers is unclear.

It certainly is not Sylvans, who have lost their promising young keeper Seb Sheppard to Manzur.

Sylvans coach Martyn de Garis said he had given Tardif the go-ahead to move for the keeper,

The GFLM statement read: 'The board of directors of Guernsey Football League Management were made aware of an alleged breach of Scor [FA league rules] by Manzur FC and one of its club representatives.

‘Following a full investigation into the complaint, the GFLM are satisfied that breaches of the rules, specifically rules 12 and 18, occurred and the following sanctions have been applied:

‘The individual to be suspended from all open age competition of the Guernsey Football League, with immediate effect, until 31 May 2023 or the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season, whichever is the later. The suspension is in relation to all coaching, team management and player recruitment within open age football, however the individual is still permitted to participate as a player.

'An undisclosed fine applied against the club.

'A nine-point deduction from the most senior league that the club is entered into, prevailing at the time that any deduction is imposed, suspended until 31 May 2023 or the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season, whichever is the later.'

If the ban is upheld it would seem very unlikely whether Tardif, who is acting as a consultant coach to the club which recently seemed destined to merge with Rangers before the proposal fell through, would be able to keep hold of his Island role, an appointment made by the Guernsey Football Association, who will sit as arbiters if an appeal is forthcoming.
