Martellos successfully defend Scratch League title

THE L’Ancresse Martellos showed they have developed the knack of peaking at the right time as they successfully defended the Nedgroup Trust Scratch League title last night, writes Gareth Le Prevost.

As was the case in 2020, Steve Mahy’s men came good in final against the Rocque Balan Royals, who had finished the round-robin stage on top but suffered a narrow 16-13 defeat to their neighbours when the trophy was on the line.

‘We won it properly – won some games,’ Mahy said with a grin, having edged last year’s final thanks to the nearest-the-pin bonus points.

‘It’s been tough ... but it’s been great.

‘The camaraderie is really good, we are really together and that’s good to see. It shows in the golf, too, we played well today, all eight of us.

‘It’s always a tough game against them but it’s just good to win and do the double again,’ he added, referring to L’Ancresse GC’s De La Rue Shield victory over Royal Guernsey earlier in the summer.
