Williams’ job safe says ‘Fal’

REX WILLIAMS stays as Rangers Priaulx coach and ‘nobody’s position is under threat’ said Colin Fallaize, the new head coach yesterday.

Just a day after the club’s players were informed – and supposedly delighted – to hear of Fallaize’s appointment, the new man was outlining his thoughts and aims for the club in the short- and mid-term.

And while he will be a regular presence and influence at training, he insisted he is not heading to the island’s oldest club ‘to take no-one’s title’.

‘I just want to be a resource from which they can benefit.

‘I’d like to think that there will be a contribution from me somewhere and everywhere.’

But, not so much a warning as an indication of his high standards, he added: ‘If any of the coaches haven’t the same capacity as me to learn, they should not be there.’

While immediate reaction to the proposed summer merger with Manzur was met with considerable negativity at St Andrew’s, news of Fallaize’s appointment as part of a long term role was met with joy among players of all ages.

This will be the third senior domestic club Fallaize has served in a senior coaching role, having been highly successful at St Martin’s and less so as an assistant at Port Soif back in the 1990s.

His footballing heart has long been coloured with black-and-white stripes and while that affection won’t be diminished, he relishes the Rangers challenge, although he admits they have a lot of work to do to shed an image of mediocrity and lacking ambition at senior level.

‘I think they have wasted some good opportunities along the way. They are still seen as a small field in St Andrew’s.’

He is keen to attract the right players to the club and wants players ‘to come for the right reasons and not throw a party.’
