Carre up to eighth in all-time list
VICKY CARRE heralded the ‘electric’ atmosphere of Sunday’s London Marathon after earning a huge personal best and going eighth on the Guernsey women’s all-time list.
Carre, 45, juggles her day job as a general practitioner with putting in long miles in the small hours of the morning and her impressive work ethic is paying dividends.
After a breakthrough 3hrs 4min. 48sec. run on the lively streets of London, the tireless veteran called the experience ‘fantastic’.
‘So good to have the big marathons back [from Covid],’ she said.
‘After two-and-a-half years with no marathon on the streets of London, the city was in the mood to celebrate. The atmosphere was electric.’
Her previous PB of 3-20-56 came from an air-bridge trip to the Isle of Man last summer and she has been building from there.
‘I have been so lucky to have a training cycle go really well with no injury and I’ve worked harder than ever in the training for this marathon,’ she added.
‘I knew I was in decent shape, but to be honest had no idea I was going to knock over 15 minutes off my previous PB and get sub-3-05.
‘Having waited so long for this marathon, I was determined to put everything into this race.
‘I just clicked into a “comfortably-hard” pace and committed to it. The crowds carry you along.
‘I am absolutely delighted – moving up to eighth on Guernsey’s all-time list as a V45 is such a nice bonus too.’
Carre, who eyes a possible Guernsey Marathon outing on 24 October, has a longer-term vision of completing her last of the ‘Big Six’ World Majors at Tokyo in 2023.
