Chelsea take good look at Adams

GUERNSEY boy Joe Adams is this week trialing with European Champions League winners Chelsea.

The former Elizabeth College, St Martin’s and Ormer FC product, now with Southern League South club Soling FC, played 90 minutes in a specially arranged trial game at Cobham on Monday night.

Having been spotted by the Chelsea scouting network, Adams, 17, was looked at in terms of his versatility.

He played central attacking midfield, right wing and centre half and the Ormer FC Facebook page claimed he ‘played really well’ ahead of a three-day stint at the Chelsea HQ in Surrey in the coming weeks.

Chelsea are not the only team on his case, though, and the youngster has also been invited to England Schools U18 trials.

Adams is certainly playing a lot of football.

When he is not involved with Sholing, who won the FA Vase and Sydenhams Wessex League double seven years ago, he is also a key member of the Eastleigh Academy.

Adams has made 14 starts for senior side Sholing this season and scored twice.

Sholing are not enjoying the greatest of seasons and recently lost to two of Guernsey FC’s Isthmian South-Central opponents in cup competitions.

The ‘Boatmen’ went down 2-1 to Bedfont Sports in the FA Cup and lost on penalties to Thatcham Town in the FA Trophy. Thatcham are here in Guernsey the weekend after next.
