Vance pleased to see his Green Lions dig in for a point

GUERNSEY FC lost a winning position for the second time in a week as they were held to a 2-2 draw by a Thatcham Town side deserving more.

The point gained saw the Green Lions move above Staines Town and into 16th in Isthmian South Central, while Thatcham dropped to 15th on a day the bottom two, who have played many more games, both lost.

GFC boss TonyVance admitted his side had not played well, giving the ball away too easily and too often.

‘They probably deserved three points and this is why I say we are not quite ready.

‘We were missing a couple of [key] players today and lost Kyle early on. We are not fit and strong enough to go toe-to-toe with a team that were fairly relentless.

‘What is really pleasing we dug in.’

GFC twice led through Matt Loaring and Tom Martin goals, but Thatcham Town looked a capable outfit and created the better chances.

‘We were not helping ourselves in terms of giving away cheap possession, but fatigue and pressure brought that. A point gained I think,’ added Vance, who has to prepare his side for another home game next week against Westfield.
