The night golfers really did light up the course

THE phrase ‘lit up the course’ has never been more appropriate to describe a local golfing event.

But the inaugural floodlit golf competition, a nine-hole Stableford on the St Pierre Park par-three circuit, fitted it perfectly.

Thirty-six invited St Pierre Park members gave the thumbs up to the initiative made possible due to the backing of 4hire.gg, which provided the lights that illuminated the course.

Andy Chandler took the honours with a haul of 20 points, one ahead of runner-up Liam Dorrity. John Spence was third, a further two points back.

Club captain and co-organiser Brian Prigent was chuffed with how well the evening went.

'Everybody enjoyed it and had a great laugh,’ he said. ‘They will be badgering us to be doing this again.'

Indeed, another is planned for early 2022.

Utilising golf balls that illuminated when struck and, in the main, stayed lit for eight minutes, it was easier to follow the path of shots than in daylight. And as one player discovered on his first hole, they remain lit when even finding their way into the middle of a pond.

Four lighting rigs and six rechargeable lights highlighted the Tony Jacklin-designed course like never before.
