An extraordinary game saw the Green Lions take the lead on 17min. through Kieran Mahon against Basingstoke Town only to find themselves 3-1 down by half-time against the seventh-placed visitors, for whom both Stefan Brown and Conor Lynch netted a brace on the day.

Ross Allen then scored twice in the second half – halving the deficit on both occasions with his goals in the 54th and 77th minutes – before Le Tissier struck with five minutes of regulation time remaining, knocking the ball in from close grange at the far post after one of Jamie Dodd’s long throws caused panic in the Basingstoke penalty area.

There was still time for Callum Stanton to make two crucial saves as the game finished in end-to-end fashion, but neither side managed a winner as it ended 4-4.

Afterwards, GFC manager Tony Vance paid tribute to Le Tissier, the Vale Rec stalwart who had a week to remember after scoring a brilliant winner in the Grand Fort Road derby before popping up with yesterday’s vital leveller.

‘He has been training for a long, long time, he got his moment in the Isle of Man game for example, took the penalty I remember, and loved it. He sent me a nice message after it to say it was one of the best feelings he’s had.

‘He has given Vale Rec loads of time and effort, like I say he has been training with us for a very long time and not getting much minutes, if at all getting in the squad.

‘Funnily enough, last 10 minutes, you are 4-3 down and you think “do I put him on, he’s a striker, he’s going to score goals or do we chuck Jacob [Fallaize] up there because he is causing all sorts of problems and go direct?”.

‘That was the 50-50 call. We went with Glenn and I’m delighted for him because he deserves that.’
