‘Pick up from where you left off’ – Vance
MAINTAIN the momentum built in the last quarter against Basingstoke Town will be Tony Vance’s rallying cry for his Green Lions tonight.
‘That will likely be the main point of my team talk,’ said the Guernsey FC manager, whose side are back in action at Footes Lane little more than 72 hours after their 4-4 thriller at the weekend.
Vance hopes to have the same squad available for the clash with Binfield, although Charlton Gauvain and Callum Stanton will be assessed before he finalises his team.
Binfield are currently eighth in Isthmian South-Central, having won eight and drawn three of their 19 league games so far, although they have lost their last three.
It is the Berkshire’s club first campaign at this level of the pyramid and they are coming off the back of what they describe as the most successful season in the club’s 129-year history.
Not only did they earn promotion to step four in 2020-21, they also reached the FA Vase final at Wembley, just missing out on the national silverware as they were narrowed beaten 3-2 by Warrington Rylands.
They have already come up against a former Guernsey FC player this season when James Hamon’s Truro City knocked them out of the FA Trophy at the end of November, also by a 3-2 scoreline.
‘They are doing well and are apparently a decent team, not dissimilar to Basingstoke Town, so we know we’re going to be up against it, but if we can perform to the level we are capable of we will be a match for them,’ Vance said.
Guernsey FC v. Binfield kicks off at 7.45pm at Footes Lane.
