The 16th-placed Green Lions travel to bottom side Staines Town off the back of a crucial 2-0 victory over Sutton Common Rovers at the weekend which lifted them out of the relegation zone.

A win today would take Tony Vance’s side, who still have at least five games in hand on every club from eighth-placed Binfield and below, six points ahead of their hosts.

Staines Town, who suffered a 6-2 defeat against the Green Lions at Footes Lane in December, have lost all four matches they have played since the turn of the year, scoring just the solitary goal in 2022 so far.

Looking to keep them at bay today will be GFC’s new 17-year-old goalkeeper Lucas Hanley, who enjoyed a good start to his Green Lions career on Sunday.

‘It wasn’t my best game, I would say, but a clean sheet is a clean sheet at the end of the day.

‘I made a couple of good saves,’ the Kent-based Hanley told GFC TV after the Sutton Common Rovers victory.

He added that the welcome he has received from his new teammates and the GFC management has been ‘brilliant’ since he signed on Friday following the sudden departure of Callum Stanton.

‘I trained with them at the start of the season when I came over to Guernsey. I wanted to come from the start so it’s a great opportunity and the boys have been really good.’

Meanwhile, second-from-bottom Chalfont St Peter have parted company with their manager Aaron Steadman, who had been in charge of the Saints only since the end of October.
