Following the recent announcement by Manzur that they will not be entering a team in the top flight after the completion of the current season, Vale Rec have held positive discussions with Romeril and a statement issued by club president Jody Bisson said that the coach’s passion to restore the green-and-yellows back towards the top of the Priaulx League has been evident throughout.

‘Mark will progress the great work that Craig and Brian Tyrrell have been doing for the club for many years and the club are delighted that both Craig and Brian will maintain prominent positions moving forward. Vale Rec would like to put on record its thanks to both Craig and Brian at this juncture,’ said the statement.

Romeril, who used to play for Rec, said he is ‘extremely motivated by the size of the challenge’.

‘I am delighted to be taking on the role of head coach of Vale Rec’s Priaulx team and to have the opportunity to fully focus on the flagship side of a club I have a long-standing affinity with,’ he said.

‘Once I have established my support team, the first step will be to embed a culture and ethos within the first team that filters down through the club, and to leverage our collective strengths to get Vale Rec challenging back near the top of the table.’

Vale Rec’s statement added that both parties are aligned in their desire to provide opportunities for players at all levels of local football in Guernsey, so this appointment sits neatly alongside the club’s wider objectives.

‘Coupled with the immediate excitement and optimism that Mark’s appointment will generate, both the club and Mark are equally enthused by the future prospects for Vale Rec – we are very proud of our burgeoning youth and minis section, which provides the perfect pathway into senior football,’ Bisson said.

‘Vale Rec is entering an exciting phase of a regeneration project that started several years ago, supported by our valued shirt sponsors M&S Simply Foods and R G Falla. We’re delighted that we have Mark’s renowned drive and determination to lead us forward.

‘As we move closer to the end of the season, further announcements and appointments are expected to be made as the club looks ahead eagerly towards the next chapter in its history.’
