For the Green Lions, it was a day to forget with Tony Vance’s luck seeming to run out very quickly after he had been so positive about the strength of squad he was able to pick.

GFC had to contend with lost luggage and motorway tailbacks on their journey to second-placed Chertsey, which delayed the kick off by half-an-hour and within 15 minutes of the game starting, they had lost Keanu Marsh to injury.

Jake Baxter then gave the home side the lead on 28min., slotting past Lucas Hanley after good footwork by Andy Crossley created the chance.

The same two Chertsey players combined to double the lead before half time, Baxter again the scorer.

Five minutes into the second half it was 3-0 when Sam Murphy curled a shot past Hanley and they completed the scoring in the 90th minute through Didi Ndombe.

GFC remain 14th in the table and they have not lost ground on the two sides directly above them as Ashford Town and Thatcham Town suffered defeats to Northwood and Chipstead.

The Green Lions head to South Park on Tuesday before they embark on a run of five successive home fixtures.

In the FNB Priaulx League on Saturday, Sylvans inflicted a 4-1 defeat on Alderney at St Peter’s while Bels came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Rovers at Port Soif.
