Late stunner downs GFC

TONY VANCE partly blamed himself as a makeshift Guernsey FC side surrendered a surprise 3-1 advantage against one of the South-Central League’s top sides at Footes Lane on Saturday.

It was a kid, 16-year-old Tim Ap Sion, who earned GFC a point in midweek, and it was two more U18s – Keene Domaille (two) and Ben Acey – who fired the Green Lions two goals in front in the penultimate home game of the season.

But having equalised in the 88th minute, Bedfont Sport’s super-sub Daniel Williams scored an outstanding winner in the sixth minute of stoppage time to leave the 588-strong crowd and the home coach unhappy with the outcome.

‘I feel for the lads as the first half they were outstanding,’ said Vance.

‘We had an approach and a game plan we wanted to use in the last three games and at half-time it was better than I expected.

‘But the second half when you have a team who are desperate for three points like Bedfont were and our resources are stretched, and it’s boiling hot, we were pegged back.

‘I take a little bit of responsibility myself for the way we dropped off a little bit. It’s the sort of cards you play when you are 3-1 up.

‘Unfortunately we just didn’t have enough.’

The coach said he will again making changes for the match with South Park today, which kicks off at 2pm at Footes Lane.

‘What we have tried to do over these three games is maximise the efforts of everyone in the squad.’

GFC sit 14th in Isthmian South Central with two games left.
