Hosts look to regain top honours as volleyball inter-insulars return

GUERNSEY have announced the teams with which they hope to avenge their 2019 inter-insular loss tomorrow.

This weekend’s event is the first inter-insular since Jersey triumphed in three of the four categories, which was no fluke for an island that has generally dominated the otherwise annual showpiece.

Covid has disrupted volleyball on both islands since, but now, having tuned up with local leagues, the Hampshire Grand Prix and for the men a British Army visit, the hosts will go in better prepared.

‘I think it will be quite evenly matched this year, but I would give the edge to Guernsey, as we are playing as a team more than Jersey,’ Guernsey Volleyball chairman Dave Bartram said.

Beau Sejour’s Sir John Loveridge Hall will host three matches across the day.

Guernsey will be hoping to defend their men’s B title at 9am, followed by bids to win back the women’s honours at 11.20am and the men’s A at 1.40pm.

Tom Fyfe is the youngest Greens representative, at 18, and is one of four debuting players, the others being Jakub Polomka, Laura Gherman and Jack Nurdin.
