It's time to bring the trophy back - Dodd
The Guernsey captain admits ‘it’s really painful’ knowing the Muratti Vase currently resides in Jersey.
Jamie Dodd will once again be leading the Greens into the final on Saturday at Springfield and having lost the previous two editions before the pandemic struck, the Sarnians are desperate to end a five-year wait to lift the most coveted prize in Channel Islands football.
‘Obviously I’ve been on the losing team and the winning team and, definitely, we want it back over here,’ he said on the Guernsey Press Football Podcast Muratti special, which is out now.
‘Normally you think about it year on year really – at times at home little things pop up and remind you of memories and stuff from over the last decade I’ve been involved.
‘Obviously missing it for the last almost three years, the only things you’ve got are those little memories. You can’t get out there and put the wrongs right for the last two years [of Jersey wins], so it’s been really grating on me for a while.
‘I don’t like ending up on the losing side pulling on that green shirt, so it’s really time to get going.’
Listen to interviews with Jamie Dodd and manager Tony Vance on a Guernsey Press Football Podcast Muratti special:
Guernsey interim manager Tony Vance will not be naming his match-day squad until tomorrow, but his Jersey counterpart Martin Cassidy has revealed his final 16-strong group.
It does not include prolific Jersey Bulls striker Sol Solomon, who is ineligible under the rules of the competition as he is a contracted player.
‘All our players are looking forward to the match and we are ready for the challenge ahead,’ said Cassidy.
‘We are looking forward to hosting the Muratti final after all the hassle everyone has been through over the past few years. It’s great for the CI football community to come and enjoy the biggest game of the season.
‘Guernsey have most of their players playing in Step 4, therefore if we can win again it will be another great achievement for us.
‘We have a chance to make it four from the last five finals and we will do everything to make that happen.’
