Griffins: ‘the best we have been in field’

GRIFFINS are in the driving seat in the Weekend Championship title race after inflicting a first defeat of the season on OEA and in the process extend their own unbeaten start to three.

Tom Kirk’s side restricted their opponents to an under-par 181 at the KGV having dismissed the OEA’s two Guernsey players, Matt Stokes and Ben Ferbrache, before the halfway point of the innings.

They then chased down their target inside 36 overs thanks largely to a magnificent opening stand of 171 between cousins Nathan (77) and Luke Le Tissier (88) to register a comprehensive seven-wicket win.

‘A very good performance from us,’ said captain Kirk.

‘That was the best we have been in the field all year.

‘We set a really good tone from the start, the noise was good, buzzed around and got the big wickets relatively early and stuck with it. Winning the toss and bowling first, I would have snapped your hand off for 180, so really pleased.

‘Then, until they got out, Luer and Naz batted incredibly.

‘The boys knew what they had to do – wait for the bad ball – and got rewarded in the end and cashed in once they got in.

‘To be honest I thought we’d be chasing 250-260 and the way they batted, I would have probably still fancied us to chase it.’
