The Sarnian men’s side won the initial round in Jersey in May to qualify for the play-offs, which were held in London the following month.

Victory there led to progression to the finals that will be held at the National Tennis Centre at Roehampton.

‘It’s a great effort from the team to make it to the final,’ said Rob West, who is joined in the team by Matt de la Mare, Patrick Ogier and Jon Young.

‘We have had to face some tough competition in the early rounds and it won’t be easy to win at the weekend.

‘However, we are all playing well and we are confident we will be able to play our best and hopefully secure a spot in Division One for next season.’

The finals feature two round-robin groups, with Guernsey having been drawn with Middlesbrough, West Hants and East Glos. The second group contains Montrose, Rocks Lane (Chiswick) and David Lloyd Bushey.

The top two teams in each group will progress to the semi-finals, which will be played on Sunday.

‘It has been a great experience just to be able to get out and compete against other clubs, particularly after being unable to travel due to Covid, and to see where our island level lies within the whole of the UK,’ said West.

‘To now have the opportunity to play against some of the best clubs in the country will only help to improve our level and we hope we can secure the win for Guernsey.’
