Leaders Northerners spoil Rangers’ big day
NORTHERNERS moved two points clear at the top of the FNB Priaulx League on Saturday when they were the party-poopers on Rangers’ first outing at their new KGV home.
Keene Domaille’s deflected strike was all that separated the sides and it gave North their third win from four league games.
However, Rovers are the only unbeaten side left in the competition after they beat Belgrave Wanderers 2-1 at the Track thanks to two goals from Max Simpson-Cohen, although it was Marc McGrath who hit a goal-of-the-season contender for the hosts.
‘You can’t get better than three points, we’ll take it every week, even if in the second half it was a bit frustrating,’ said Rovers coach Kevin Gillease of a game where all the goals came before half-time.
‘But we are winning games that we weren’t last season so it can only be a good sign.’
Defending champions St Martin’s produced a ruthless display to hit Alderney Nomads for six at Blanche Pierre Lane.
Dom Heaume scored twice while there were also goals for Rory Moriarty, Cal Le Lacheur, Louis Hunter and Nigel Hutton.
In the other game of a busy top-flight programme, Vale Rec bounced back from their sobering Grand Fort Road derby defeat to put five past Sylvans without reply at St Peter’s.
Sammy Goddard netted the opener, Glenn Le Tissier added a brace and there were also goals for Tiago Rodrigues and Zach Masterton-Pipet for Mark Romeril’s side.
