Late sickener for GFC while Acey extends Bristol City contract

GUERNSEY FC suffered injury-time agony for the second time in three days as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Merstham on Monday.

Coming off the back of their 94th-minute defeat to Ashford Town on Saturday, the Green Lions took the lead at the worldflow Stadium through Matt Loaring's header midway through the first half.

With 10 minutes remaining, Will Fazakerley finished off a neat passing move to give GFC a two-goal cushion that they took into four minutes of injury time at the end of the match.

However, Merstham struck twice in the space of a minute through Charlie Alexiou and Bryan Zepo to salvage an unlikely point in the dying moments of the game.

The result means both sides remain in the bottom two of the Isthmian South Central table. GFC would have risen from 19th to 13th had they held on to win.

Meanwhile, Guernsey Muratti player Ben Acey has signed a one-year contract extension at Bristol City.

The 18-year-old former North and Guernsey FC midfielder is a member of the Robins' under-21 squad who are unbeaten in nine games so far this season and he has put pen to paper on a new deal to keep him at Ashton Gate until June 2024.
