Raiders get Footes Lane rocking with rousing Worthing win

Guernsey gave themselves a mountain to climb, but they scaled it in tremendous fashion at Footes Lane on Saturday with a remarkable come-from-behind 36-31 win over Worthing that could change the course of their season, according to coach Jordan Reynolds.

‘It’s not how we play. The issue of how we play is not why we lose games, it’s in our heads, it’s the top two inches that we’ve been missing and that’s something we’ve got to work on... but to beat one of these top sides is a confidence booster,’ he said.

‘We haven’t trained well for two weeks, you could see there was frustration and I know why exactly that is – it’s because we’re losing by small margins. If we had lost today by a small margin, I think that would have broken the camel’s back.

‘It is easier to lose by 40 and say everything is wrong than lose by a small margin and taste that five times. We’ve done that and I see the frustration with the boys, so I know exactly why, but for them to turn around and pull that performance out today, fair play to them.’

Guernsey were 23 points down at 26-3 after 31 minutes but a try from Dan Morgan on the stroke of half-time brought them back to within 16 points.

After the break, further tries from Charlie Simmonds, Jason Batiste, Doug Horrocks and Ethan Smith saw them to a remarkable victory.
