Hale’s great strike earns three points
A TERRIFIC strike from Danny Hale gave Guernsey FC another memorable night on the road last night.
Following their come-from-behind victory at Binfield last week, the Green Lions made it back-to-back midweek away wins for the first time in nine years thanks to Hale’s goal-of-the-season contender combined with an impressive all-round team performance to beat Westfield 1-0.
The decisive moment came with two minutes remaining in the first half.
Tyler McKane, who had a fine game at right-back for GFC, crossed the ball into a busy penalty area, but Hale found enough time and space to control the ball on his chest before hooking a right-footed volley into the top corner.
Up to that point, it had been an even contest with Westfield not afraid to shoot, but Josh Addison was rarely troubled in the first half as his defence stood firm.
After the interval, the GFC goalkeeper made a good stop low down to his left to deny Didi Ndombe before Jacob Fallaize made an important block from David Amate.
However, it was far from one-way traffic and Westfield keeper Sonny Wheeler made an good block to prevent Ross Allen from doubling his side’s lead after running onto Sam Murray’s flick on.
The win takes the Green Lions onto 30 points from 28 games, which gives them a four-point cushion above the relegation play-off places.
