Visiting Swans on run of 14 successive wins

GUERNSEY FC welcome Kieran Mahon back into their ranks this weekend as they face two games in three days – starting with record-breaking Walton & Hersham today.

The ‘Swans’ arrive at Footes Lane looking to extend their club record run of successive victories to 15, having comprehensively beaten previous table-toppers Basingstoke Town 5-1 a week ago to take over as league leaders for the first time this season.

Leading scorer Eddie Simon was unable to add to his own extraordinary record-breaking sequence of four hat-tricks in a row, but he was on target again in that victory to take his tally to 34 for the season.

With Basingstoke involved in the only Good Friday fixture in the division yesterday, Walton & Hersham may have relinquished first place by the time they play today, but GFC manager Tony Vance knows to expect the sort of test genuine title contenders will pose.

However, with a game at South Park coming less than 48 hours after today’s big challenge, the Green Lions boss said: ‘I need to consider Monday, too, so I am going to rotate a little’.

That makes the news of Mahon’s return from injury all the more important while Vance was also happy to report that Brandon Wallace and Keene Domaille came through their Guernsey U21 Ambassadeur Bowl duties unscathed last weekend.

Meanwhile, in domestic competition, North travel to St Peter in Jersey today for their Wheway Cup semi-final while here the race for a spot in next season’s Wheway continues in the FNB Priaulx League with fourth-placed Vale Rec taking on Bels at the Track at 2pm before third-placed St Martin’s host Sylvans at Blanche Pierre Lane at 5pm.

GFC v Walton & Hersham kicks off at 2pm today at Footes Lane.
