Although an injury-time equaliser from the hosts denied the Green Lions victory at South Park yesterday in a game that ended 2-2, the point took GFC to 40 and out of reach of both Sutton Common Rovers and Merstham, who were unable to win later in the day.

GFC got off to the ideal start on the 3G surface at Whitehall Lane yesterday, scoring twice inside the first quarter of the game.

They broke the deadlock on 12min. when Ross Allen and Dave Merris interchanged passes from a corner out on the right-hand side before the the No 10 whipped in an inswinging left-footed cross that was turned in by Sam Murray from close range.

Allen doubled the lead seven minutes later with another stunning goal to add to his collection.

Jacob Fallaize’s fine over-the-top pass picked out his run and Allen’s first touch was perfect to get the ball under the control and take it into space away from the retreating defenders. He did not even bother to look up as he then chipped South Park goalkeeper Zak Basey from the edge of the penalty area with an exquisite finish.

The lead was well-deserved at that stage, but five minutes before the interval the home side got one back as Finlay Johnson’s drove a shot through Josh Addison and into the net.

Just when it looked as if GFC were going to hold on for all three points in the second half, late South Park pressure led to an injury-time equaliser from Ryan Healy.
