Frustration continues for Green Lions

GUERNSEY FC manager Tony Vance expressed pride in his team’s efforts on Saturday, despite a fifth defeat in six games, which pushed the Green Lions down into the relegation zone.

Rhys Harper’s controversial goal in the 78th minute was enough for Marlow to leave Footes Lane with all three points but Vance felt his largely youthful team had competed well.

‘I was really proud of our team,’ he said.

‘Marlow are one of the big hitters in this division – while we had a really young group of players out there – but there wasn’t much between the teams. Just one decision, unfortunately.’

In the build up to the solitary goal of the game, centre-back Joe Alvarez pushed up towards the half-way line to clear a through ball and got nothing on it, while Harper was able to surge forward and earn himself a one-on-one against the busy home keeper Josh Addison – a chance which he finished well, with a clean and well-placed strike.

However, Vance felt his side had not one but two reasons to feel aggrieved at the officiating.

‘I’ve seen the footage – two instances – offside, but also a foul on Joe,’ he said.

‘They didn’t give either of them and the fella scores, so it’s cruel on the players. They don’t deserve that.’
