‘We know what we need to do’ – Tardif

RANGERS will have the chance to get revenge on North this evening after the chocolate-and-blues edged them out in last week’s dramatic FA Cup tie.

Chris Tardif’s men went two goals up in the KGV fixture before Jose Alvarez’s side responded to force extra-time, where they ended up finding a winner to advance to the next round of the competition.

‘We want to get the win and we know what we need to do,’ said Tardif ahead of the league fixture at Northfield.

‘We know where we have been falling short in these games, but we are still a very young team.

‘These things come with more experience and game knowledge, and I am really happy with the way we have been progressing.’

‘The tough thing for us is that we are very rarely able to field the same team week in, week out – we have had a lot of absences and we still need more depth in the ranks.

‘We have to adapt, though, and overcome these obstacles, and the positive thing is that it allows us to bring even more young players into the squad.

Rangers have had a mixed start to the league season, falling 3-0 to Vale Rec on the opening day and losing 6-1 at Blanche Pierre Lane against Saints, before responding at home to Alderney with a 3-0 win to get their first points on the board.

‘We want to keep developing and winning is very important to us,’ said Tardif.

‘We need to be careful because last year we just tried to stay in games, whereas now we have a slightly different philosophy and want to be more competitive to try and win.

‘We will not become Priaulx winners overnight, though, but we’re happy with the progress so far.

‘I want to build a proper club here, not just a team.’

Elsewhere this weekend, Belgrave Wanderers welcome St Martin’s to the Track on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams currently sit on three points in the Priaulx, as Chris Le Friec’s men have won one of their three games, while Ed Adams’ team have been victorious in one of their two fixtures thus far.

‘Everyone is absolutely desperate to get three points,’ said Le Friec ahead of the fixture.

‘There are such fine margins in this league, as so far we have lost very narrowly to Rovers and gifted Sylvans a win despite being dominant.

‘We have plenty of firepower within our ranks, especially with the likes of Jarod Carrington and Cal Wall back in the side.

‘We went toe-to-toe with them in the Rawlinson Cup game and felt we should have beaten them, and they struggled to handle our pace in that game so hopefully it will be the same again.

‘They are not the same Saints team that were all-conquering a couple years ago, they are a team in transition with lots of youth, so we’re not quite sure what to expect.’

In this weekend’s other league game, new Sylvans boss Jon Collenette will be looking to make it three wins from three since coming into the role as they play host to Alderney at St Peter’s tomorrow afternoon.

Sylvans beat Grouville 4-2 last week to advance to the Jeremie Cup semi-final, and will be looking to pick up their second league victory of the season against the struggling Alderney, who are yet to pick up a point.
