In a see-saw battle in front of a 758-strong crowd at Footes Lane, it required two goals in as many minutes late in the game for the Green Lions to secure all three points after visiting forward Aaron Jenkins had stunned the Garenne Stand with an 85th-minute equaliser to make it 2-2.

However, Ross Allen immediately restored the lead with his second of the game and Sam Murray made sure of the win with a superb individual goal – his first of the Isthmian South Central campaign.

'Payback from last time to them, really, to be honest,' said GFC manager Tony Vance, referring to Sutton Common Rovers scoring two stoppage-time goals to beat the Green Lions earlier this season.

'And I think when you say character and desire now, we've been building for these sort of results, we've had it done to us and over the last sort of five, six weeks, we're getting there.

'Northwood three games ago, we were outstanding and didn't get anything. Binfield we scrapped out a win, albeit we were a better team. Today we scrapped out a win, albeit the better team. So we're picking up points now as well as the performances and that's what it's all about.'

Earlier, Allen had scored from the penalty spot to equalise Max Oldham's opening goal in the first half before Matt Loaring gave GFC the lead just before the hour.
