Leaders Vale Rec had their unbeaten record ended at the KGV on Saturday where Jose Camacho came off the bench to score the only goal of the game and give Rangers a surprise victory.

Unfortunately, the youthful home side’s win, which was earned with a hard-working and disciplined display helped by some fine saves from Seb Sheppard, was marred by the loss of Steve Renouf to a serious injury which saw him leave the ground in an ambulance.

‘He has been great for us, showing great character and responsibility,’ said Rangers coach Chris Tardif of his midfielder who, it is believed, dislocated his knee.

As for the performance of his team, Tardif added: ‘We decided to sit in and the guys did it very well. There was a real togetherness and team spirit.’

Meanwhile, there was drama at Port Soif where Sylvans looked to have snatched a draw in stoppage time when Oscar Leadbeater slotted home an equaliser after Martin Savident had earlier given Rovers the lead.

However, the champions came up with an instant reply as Luke Ogier headed in Max Simpson-Cohen’s cross to secure all three points with a 2-1 win.

Rovers will look to carry that momentum into tomorrow’s big clash with Vale Rec at the Corbet Field.

Saturday’s other Priaulx League match saw Bels beat Alderney 3-0 at the Track thanks to a hat-trick from Marc McGrath.
