The hosts, who sit second in the Isthmian South Central table, went into the break with a 2-1 lead thanks to a brace from the league’s top scorer Dawid Rogalski, but Tony Vance’s men were rampant after the restart and held firm at the back to secure all three points.

The second-half goals coming from Ross Allen, Niall Hainsworth and Matt Loaring after Owen Wallbridge’s opening effort as three players made their Green Lions debuts off the bench; Oscar Leadbeater, Alex Ward, and Harry Jones — who came on late having been commentating for the club’s live stream on the night and was named among the substitutes to bolster a depleted squad.

‘That was one of my favourite games as GFC coach because of the situation,’ said Vance after the game.

‘Emotions are high right now after the result so it’s easy to get a little bit excited, but it’s certainly right up there with the best result we’ve had in 13 years because of the circumstances.’
