Green Lions ‘deserved a draw’

‘THE players deserved a draw’ were Tony Vance’s words at full time after what had been a much-improved performance from Guernsey FC.

The Green Lions were beaten 2-1 by Raynes Park Vale at Footes Lane on Saturday afternoon, despite having started well and a positive second-half performance.

‘I thought the first five minutes of the game were really good and I was quite excited to be honest. We had a couple of chances and I thought that if we can continue like that, then we can control them and the situation, but then the next 40 was horrible – disastrous,’ said Vance.

‘Second-half we were brilliant and no one can deny we deserve to draw. We had them rattled and as I said, I think we deserved a draw there, so credit to the players.’

Fin Du Port scored to pull one back five minutes before the break, his second GFC goal, and second in a week.

‘He’s great,’ said Vance. ‘Two goals for him now and he deserves them.’

Vance also praised Dave Merris at full-time.

‘To be honest, at half time I thought the only person who was really showing some credit and control with their decisions was Mez, and he’s 44, and that is sort of concerning, and I told the players that – and the best thing about it was their response.’
