‘Big Bad Dan’ to top bill in last fight
Dan Maree’s super-heavyweight battle will top the bill in tomorrow night’s dinner boxing.
‘Big Bad Dan’ is up there for good reason, as it is set to be his last fight before he retires in the calendar year he turns 40 – as per amateur boxing rules.
‘Plus, it’s always good to finish a show with two big super-heavyweights going for it,’ Guernsey Amalgamated Boxing Club head coach Ben Duff said.
The head coach’s expectation of the headline contest, in which the Guernsey titan faces Dan Fletcher, is a ‘toe-to-toe war between two front-foot boxers, which will make for a brutal and entertaining bout’.
This comes as the usual bill-topper, Tommy Teers, misses out through injury.
With previous headliner Russ Gogercaks now retired due to a chronic shoulder injury, there will be 10 bouts lined up in total against Yorkshire select opposition.
Once again taking high status on the bill are the ever-improving trio of Finn Walsh, Tyler Quintal and Emile Prevel.
Walsh is in a rematch against Reece McAlpine, having edged him via split decision last November in a great battle that earned bout of the night.
Neither boxer took a step back in that brutal encounter – and fireworks can be expected again.
Quintal will be looking to extend his run of fine form as he takes on Dylan O’Hara, while Prevel steps up a level to face the more experienced Steven Gilligan, who has competed against Walsh previously.
It looks to be a clash of styles, and the stakes are high for Prevel, who remains undefeated with eight wins under his belt.
‘Getting harder and more experienced opponents is inevitable and what Emile needs to keep improving,’ Duff added.
‘Finn, Tyler and Emile put in great performances at the [season-opening] October show and if they carry on putting in the hard work, it won’t be too long before they are competing at elite level.
‘It's a fantastic line-up and should be a night of hard-fought battles.’
That line-up also includes fellow regulars Josh Lazarou and Braden Morris in the top half of the bill.
Tamjid Rahman will be looking to build on a hard-fought points win in his first contest last month, while this time Dexter Loveridge makes his competitive debut.
